Recent advances in ketenedithioacetal chemistry
Recent advances in ketenedithioacetal chemistry
This thesis is concerned with the chemistry of ketenedithioacetals. Initially a brief summary of the subject area is presented. The second chapter is concerned with the development of a new route to highly substituted indanes involving a 5-exo-trig radical cyclisation to the alkene moiety of a ketenedithioacetal. Chapter three extends these studies towards a new and general synthesis of condensed thiophenes by the addition of a carbon radical to a sulfur atom in a ketenedithioacetal. The fourth chapter highlights a new method for the preparation of vinyl silanes, involving a single electron transfer to the ketenedithioacetal moiety.
